How do I find an adoption agency or adoption representation?

Call the Adoption Information Center!  In addition, look at your local telephone book's yellow pages and surf the web.  AIC suggests that you select several agencies, or other adoption representation, call them and speak to them about their services.  If you like what you hear, make an appointment and attend their orientation.  You will get an idea of their operation through their presentation.  It is important to feel good about your adoption representation - they are going to assist you in making a family!  Talk to other families who have adopted through them.  Ask questions!

I've made a decision regarding an adoption agency or other adoption representation, now what?

Once you have made a decision on one agency, commit to them.  Develop a relationship with them and keep in contact - don't let them forget about you.  Remember, they have many other clients too.  

What is my state's adoption requirements for adoption?

Each state's adoption laws vary.  Contact your state Adoption Unit for more information. 

Is there an age restriction for adoption?

In the State of California, persons 21 and older may adopt.   Check your home state's age requirement.

Do I have to own my own home to adopt and have a sizeable bank account?

No.  You will need adequate living space for the child and you will have to verify financial stability.  Good parents come in all economic classifications.
